This assignment was to write about something I feel strongly about, and something I've seen recently that sparked it. Jess did a speech on abortion last Friday, and this poem was inspired by the pictures she showed us.

The American Nightmare

Hear the cries of women and children
Envision the blood they have spilt
Whether the women be disillusioned
Or little babes be innocently murdered

Hush my dear, now you know
You let the physicians mutilate your child
Now you know, the guilt is pungent
The knife within you is still cutting

The expert's words jagged in your mind
Turmoil! Oh fantastic nightmare
The life snatched, has taken your happiness
"For choice" you protested, that choice that kills

The devil knows he had his victory
When the acid burns or the tools mar
White walls, clean uniforms, sterile equipment
It's the wolf in sheep's clothing
Blood dripping from his sharpened fangs

Do you sense the doom looming in on you?
Can you feel blood saturating the carpet beneath you?
You're slipping in it, you're losing feeling
It's come upon you, death, that is
In one day you and your babe have left this world

For choice?

  2. this is really good. I once wrote a poem on abortion. This blows it out of the water though. Great job.
